WHAT’S THE BEST PAINT PROTECTION FOR YOUR CAR?

Auto Pro Finish • Oct 03, 2021

If you are looking to protect your paint and keep it in the best condition possible, you have a lot of choices. There are many paint protection products on the market now, so which one is the best?

Paint Protection - Auto Pro Finish

The answer really depends on what your requirements are. Here we will list some of the options and what their positives and negatives are.

Wax

Wax is the traditional paint protection that has been around for decades. It’s relatively cheap, easy to apply and makes your paint look great. It can be done by a DIYer and can be picked up from any auto store.

Wax is typically made of a of a natural wax, such as Carnauba, which is blended with chemicals to make it possible to apply it to the paint work.

While wax can make your paint look amazing, the problem with it is that is is not that durable. It is easy to wash off, can evaporate in high heat and doesn’t provide a lot of protection against acid rain and bird droppings. Wax usually needs to be reapplied every couple of months.

Sealant

Sealants are very similar to wax but are chemically engineered to last much longer than wax.

Sealants are typically made of plastic polymers and provide better protection in high temperatures, against chemical detergents, acid rain, bird dropping etc. They typically last 4-6 months before needing to be reapplied.

Sealants can come in either spray or paste form, with the spray sealant being easier to apply. However, spray sealants don’t offer as good protection as the paste sealant, which take more time and effort to apply but also last much longer.

Ceramic Coating

Ceramic Coating is a fairly new invention and so far is the best paint protection you can get. Ceramic coating is a liquid-polymer that contains quartz, silica, and silicone-dioxide, and utilizes nanoparticles to adhere to the surface of the paint and seal all of its pores.

Ceramic coating is much harder to apply than sealant or wax, and you need to make sure that the paintwork is 100% perfect and clean (including any water marks etc) before the ceramic coating is applied. Once applied, it dries into a hard shell, and you can’t get anything under it out, without removing the ceramic coating (which is not that easy).

However, this characteristic is what makes ceramic coating so great. It provides a protective shell over your paintwork that is nearly impossible to remove short of sanding it off, which means that nothing will get through to damage your paint. It is light years ahead of the protection you can get from waxes or sealants and can last up to 9 years!

It is however, quite a bit more expensive to both purchase and apply, and it difficult for a DIYer to do. It really needs to be done in a controlled environment to ensure no contaminants get into it.

Which method of paint protection is best for your car will really depend on your requirements. However, if you are looking for the absolute best paint protection available, ceramic coating is the way to go.

Graphene Vs Ceramic Coatings
By Auto Pro Finish 24 Jan, 2023
Graphene and ceramic nano coatings are two of the most advanced protective coatings available on the market today. Both are extremely effective at providing superior protection to a variety of surfaces, but they each have their own advantages and disadvantages. In this blog, we’ll explore the differences between graphene and ceramic nano coatings and discuss which one may be the best choice for your needs. Graphene is a single-atom-thick layer of carbon atoms arranged in a honeycomb pattern. It is incredibly strong and lightweight and has a range of remarkable properties, including superb thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties. Graphene nano coatings are used in a variety of industries, including aerospace, automotive, and military applications. Due to its incredible strength and durability, graphene nano coatings are often used to protect surfaces from extreme temperatures, extreme weather conditions, and even corrosion. Ceramic nano coatings are another type of protective coating, but they are made up of particles that are much smaller than those found in graphene nano coatings. Ceramic nano coatings are often used to provide a glossy finish and excellent protection against scratches in self healable nano form. & offer protection, but are not as strong or durable, and they are not as resistant to heat or UV radiation. They also can require more maintenance than graphene based coating. Additionally, ceramic nano coatings tend to be more expensive than graphene nano coatings, but again this can vary. In case of our Self-Heal range of paint protection, the Graphene, is considerably less than the Ceramic counterpart due to the process and difficulty required for the ceramic coating and IR curing. Overall, both graphene and ceramic nano coatings are excellent protective coatings that can provide superior protection for a variety of surfaces. However, it is important to consider the specific application and your budget before choosing the best option. Graphene nano coatings offer superior protection in extreme conditions and are more affordable, while ceramic nano coatings are more resistant to high temperatures and chemical exposure but are more expensive. Ultimately, the best choice will depend on the application and your individual needs. Remember one important point, that a nano coating that can self-heal will always provide more protection than a coating that just protects from the elements and claims to be scratch resistant...
